Reverend Corleone, Bishop Soprano, and Prophet Gotti

All the noise about the senate investigation of Klepto Dollar, Eddie Long(money), and the rest of the Prosperity Perps got me thinking.

We hear them all say, when asked about their ostentatious possessions, "It ain't mine! It belongs to tha chu'ch!"

You know who else says that when grilled by the authorities? The Mafia! Drug dealers! Fat-cat corporate big wigs! Folks who get pulled over with weed in their pockets! ("Thass my cuzzin' weed, Mr. Ossifer*! I swear! Theeze ain't even my pants!")

Is this just a co-incidence? Is it happenstance that the known crooks funnel their money through a maze of dummy corporations and "legitimate businesses" in the same way that these Prosperity Punks funnel all their stuff through the church?

It's funny, though... When I heard I.V. Hilliard, another one, bragging about buying a jet, when I heard Fred Price boasting about his multi-thousand-dollar exoticar, I didn't hear them say it belonged to the chu'ch. It was theirs! When Klepto and Taffi did that big spread in Ebony magazine a couple years ago, I don't recall seeing them say that stuff belonged to the church, either.

As a partner of mine used to say, "These cats slicker than owl... feces!"

Pity, though. Paula White can't say that her plastic surgery belongs to the church.

The Church, however, does need a facelift!

I appreciate you views on the subject but what are you gonna do about it. I recently wrote a blog titled "shut your mouth and do somthing" you should read it because although I agree that these prosperity preachers should be looked into but I dont think it was neccesary to throw in those personal attacks at the end and it really just made you look like another blooger that runs their mouth and does nothing to fix it.

If I came off as really brash I appologize I just think that people nned to do stuff instead of throwing mud.

God bless,
Anthony

Anthony. I hope you read this comment. Thank you for responding. I post all of this on another site, too because it seems that no one reads it here.

I respect your opinion, and accept your criticism, but I must object to the idea that I do nothing but blog and sling mud.

If you read my blog posts in context, you will find that one of my stated goals is to get people to learn to read the Bible as a book, and not a collection of quotes. I stress CONTEXT in interpretation, and I stress Bereanship, if you will. It is ironic that you chastize me for what I consider an attempt, perhaps a poor one, at humor, since you just wrote a post suggesting that Christians are allowed to laugh. I don't think it is any more of a personal attack to call them crooks than it was for the writers of Scripture to call them vipers, wolves, or any of a number of other names.

I contend that I did NOT attack them personally, but I attacked their PUBLIC teaching and behavior. I tried to use humor to do so. Forgive me if I failed.

I do NOT just sit around and rant on the internet. If you read some of my other things, you will find that I, beig a musician, take the opportunity to live my Christian life in front of those who don't appear to have Christ. I make my faith known to them and often find myself in situations where I get the chance to defend and present the faith in its true form. These charlatans do so much harm, that most people think that they present is true Christianity. Some of them use it as an excuse to not join.

If you ckick the "Fellowship Memphis" link, you will find also, that I attend a church that does NOT simply hold services in a building and collect money! We are racially diverse on purpose, and one of our goals is to go out into the city and try to change the paradigm.

I KNOW that I could do more. We all could. But I am not a mud-slinger. I worry about offending the Lord with some of my more biting comments. I try not to do so. But I know that some will be offended no matter what I write. Kind worde do not always make the strongest statement, as Jesus sometimes showed in His use of sarcasm. Paul did, too.

Some people would find humor in the way I used humor to try to make a point.

The POINT in this post was to show how these, and others of their ilk, mirror the behavior of other crooks.

I would like to think my blog causes people to think, not just laugh...

Thanks again, Derrick.

Thank you for responding to me,

like I said when I ended my blog I apologize for seeming brash.

I in no way am defending Joel Osteen and I was not aware of some of the things he teaches I just think it is very risky to call someone a heretic and was attempting to show that we need to think hard before calling someone a heretic and that unfortunately we (conservative Christians) tend to be quick to call someone a heretic (example my Christians are not allowed to laugh blog).

I was not meaning to say that you were doing nothing, I was saying that the crack at Paula Whites face made you look like one that does nothing. I hope I did not offend you and apologize if I did.

No hard feelings I hope
God Bless and keep up the good work,
Anthony

Anthony, thanks again, and no, you didn't offend me. I know that sometimes I probably come across brash. Boldness, however is often necessary, and hard truths need to be told. I believe that one can be direct and respectful as well. When I talk to my child or a co-worker about something where directness is necessary, I do so.

I just wanted to be clear that I am not a person who will casually post on the internet without considering the effects of it.

I was not making a crack about Paula White's face. I was making a crack about how she possibly, probably, uses church funds and phoney "atonement" schemes (which we no longer need to do, as Christians. Jesus Paid it ALL), She uses money collected in dubious ways to pay for plastic surgery.

I was not attacking the way she looks. It was a continuation of the point I was making that many of these people use tax free funds to pay for non-churh related stuff. Like how the Copelands used the "church jet" to go to Hawaii and stuff.

I think calling these people out, sounding the alarm, so to speak, IS doing something, however little.

Keep doing what you are doing with Godly boldness! I am not offended. I as a Christian am not above being held accountable. ALL of us should be.

Thanks, Derrick.
